Organize a full moon carschooling adventure to a local park for a full moon walk!
Invite other families to caravan with you to a heavily wooded park after dark on the night of a full moon. (If the park officially closes at sunset, get permission in advance from the park ranger to enter after hours). Walk along a trail with your carschoolers, using just their night vision to see nocturnal creatures (an owl, an opossum, a bat, or maybe a raccoon).
When you come to a clearing in a meadow, play Moon Shadow Tag (whoever is “it” tries to step on the shadow of someone else). After the game, sit down for some hot cocoa and cookies and see if your carschoolers can identify a few constellations in the night sky.
On the way home, sing moon tunes: “Moon River,” “Blue Moon,” “Moondance,” “By the Light of the Silvery Moon,” “Mr. Moonlight,” “Shine on Harvest Moon,” “Moonshadow,” “Moon Over Miami,” “Mississippi Moon,” and “That’s Amore” (“When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie…that’s amore!”).
