Windshield Museum

Have you ever driven down the road on a sunny day and noticed lots of insects swarming?  Sometimes the unfortunate bugs get splattered on the windshield.  If they aren’t too squished to recognize, have your carschoolers try to identify them.  One carschool family pulled into a gas station to clean the windshield after driving through an insect swarm, and noticed a number of dead, but intact bugs on their radiator.  They pulled them out, put them in a napkin for safekeeping, and then referred to their field guide for identification.  The next time you take a long trip, bring an insect field guide with you and chart the different species you see along the way.  Have your carschoolers take turns reading from the guide.  For each species they identify, have them tell the rest of the passengers one interesting fact about that bug.
