Did you know that states have nicknames?  Here are the nicknames for every state.  Ask your carschoolers to try and figure out why each state has that name.  If you get stumped, have your carschoolers use your smart phone to look it up online.

Alabama = Heart of Dixie

Alaska = The Last Frontier

Arizona = Grand Canyon [...]

State Mottos

Every state has an official motto or saying. For example, Alaska’s motto is “North to the Future,” California’s is “Eureka,” and New Hampshire’s is “Live Free or Die.” Many mottos are included on state license plates. Every time you are carschooling, have your carschoolers look for state mottos on license plates. [...]
