Carschoolers in Georgia decided to visit every historical marker in their county. Their mother reported that they spent an hour or two every day over a two-week period traveling to different marker locations. The kids took close-up photographs of every marker so that they could read the text on the developed photograph. Then they put the photos in an album along with written comments about the site and what they thought about it. Sometimes the kids commented on the history, other times they wrote about a game they played nearby, or mentioned something that they found close to the site that was of interest. The written comments helped the family to remember each site and what it designated. Their mom says, “They still like to flip through the album and talk about local history.”
